Within the international project “Actionbound – Sustainability Goals in my City”, we bring together students from Odesa, Ukraine (Lyzeum), Sofia, Bulgaria (NPMG) and Ulm, Germany (Schubart Gymnasium), to create together an interactive city tour, supported by students working by ILEU e.V., and older adults.
The Project is guided by ILEU e.V., in cooperation with the Lokale Agende Ulm.
The project is funded by BW Stiftung.
To get to know better the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG`s), implemented by the United Nations (UN).
To identify local examples of SDG implementation in each participating city.
To select 5 goals and to present such places to the working groups of the other countries to foster critical thinking and strengthening the students language skills.
To collaboratively develop an interactive city tour highlighting five SDGs in each participating city by using the “Actionbound” App.
To regularly exchange progress and results with the international partner groups.
To gain experience in using new digital tools.
To meet in person for a personal encounter and working session in Ulm in July 2025.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations are a global plan to promote peace, prosperity, and environmental protection. They were adopted in 2015 by all UN member states as part of the 2030 Agenda and are set to be achieved by 2030.
The SDGs cover various areas, including poverty eradication, education, gender equality, clean water, climate action, and sustainable cities. Each goal is designed to address social, economic, and environmental challenges collectively, ensuring a sustainable future for all people and the planet.
Democracy is a concept we are pretty much all familiar with, however, defining its practical implementation can sometimes turn out to be a challenging task. It is not just about values in theory—it is about putting those very values into action. That’s why we have come up with this project aiming at combining democratic principles with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
We see democracy and sustainable development as mutually reinforcing: democratic systems can thus become the point of departure to promote transparency, equality, and participation, all essential for achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In return, the SDGs—through goals such as quality education, reduced inequalities, or climate action—can strengthen democratic structures.
These examples highlight the deep connection between democracy and sustainable development—and underscore the vital role that civil society organizations play in achieving these goals. By hosting workshops and debates, we aim to connect global ambitions with local realities, tackling questions like: How can top-down UN goals be adapted to grassroots needs?
Our initiative, “Actionbound – Sustainability Goals in My City,” starts from the local level, using digital tools to inspire democratic engagement and sustainable thinking—right where people live and act.
