Democracy is the fundamental structure of our life together in Europe. A functioning democracy rests on three pillars: democracy as an individual sense of life, democracy as a lived form of social interaction, and democracy as the constitutional basis.
We live in a time marked by rapid change in science, politics, technology, education, and the environment. The effects of these changes are impacting our societies and cultures, causing uncertainty for many people. Additionally, the strong demographic shift, migration, and digitalization are factors that significantly alter how people coexist.
In this era, it is especially important that we keep in mind a common, solidaristic, and peaceful future for all, one that is based on humanitarian values and democratic cooperation, and that we actively work toward this future. But what can we do, where, when, and how?
In this project, „Fit for Participation to…,“ we — people of all ages —come together to reflect, exchange ideas, and identify approaches for individual or small-group action, transcending local and national borders with the support of various digital tools. English serves as the bridging language, but effective communication is possible even for those without English skills, thanks to Zoom’s interpretation channels, the multifunctional online platform ViMA-danube (currently available in 14 languages), and other digital translation tools.
We are committed to fostering a vibrant civil society, bringing young and old people together. We explore participatory approaches that demonstrate how civic engagement at the grassroots level can contribute to a stronger democracy. The project itself is also participatory in nature. At the outset, ILEU provides impulses for research, discussion, and the creative development of ideas that promote social participation. However, the further progress of the project depends on those who take part—whether digitally or in person.
Participation in the project is free, and everyone is welcome, provided their contributions adhere to the principles of our constitution. Constructive debate is encouraged, but hate speech and insults will not be tolerated.
