About the Project

Democracy is the basic structure of our coexistence in Europe. A functioning democracy is built on three pillars:

Democracy as an individual attitude to life, democracy as a lived form of social coexistence, democracy as a constitutional basis.We live in a time characterized by rapid change in science, politics, technology, education and the environment; the consequences of change are affecting our societies and culture and unsettling many people.

In addition, demographic change, migration and digitalization are factors that are significantly changing the way people live together
At this time, it is particularly important that we focus on a common, solidary and peaceful future for all, based on humanitarian values and democratic coexistence, and that we work towards this. But what can we do, where, when and how?

In this project “Fit 4 Democracy”, we, people of all ages, want to think about this with the support of various digital tools across local and national borders, exchange ideas and find common starting points for individual action or action in small groups. The bridge language is English, but the online conference system Zoom with its translation channels, the multifunctional online platform ViMA-danube, which can currently be used in 14 languages, and other digital translation tools make communication possible even if you don’t speak English.

We are committed to a vibrant civil society, young and old together. We are looking for participatory methods that show us in an exemplary way how participation from the grassroots of society is possible in order to strengthen democratic coexistence, but the approach in the project is also participatory. At the start, ILEU provides impulses for research, discussion and creative design of ideas that promote social participation, but the further course depends on those who participate – digitally or analog.

Participation in the project is free of charge and everyone is welcome whose contributions are in line with our constitution. A positive culture of debate is welcome, but no hate speech or insults.
